Alpheus Environmental Ltd acknowledges the fact that all employees and other individuals who come into contact with the company’s operations, have a right to return home safe and well.  It is also believed that the provision of a safe working environment and systems will enhance the company’s health and safety climate. It is therefore considered that excellent health and safety performance directly contributes to our commercial success.  This policy statement compliments and expands on the Company Policy Statement.

Alpheus Environmental Ltd’s health & safety policy is, by seeking continuous improvement, to achieve and maintain excellence in health  & safety and operational performance, and to minimise health and safety risk to our employees, contractors, clients, members of the public and anyone else who may come into contact with the company’s operations.

Our primary goal is to ensure that all significant health and safety hazards from operations carried out by Alpheus Environmental Ltd are identified, and that these are sufficiently controlled to prevent the hazards from being realised.  In order to pursue this goal, we will work in partnership with employees, contractors and clients and strive to:

  • Evaluate health and safety risk at management, contractual and operational levels on a periodic basis and ensure appropriate controls are identified and implemented;

  • Maintain an open policy for reporting incidents without prejudice, and consult employees on matters relating to health and safety;

  • Ensure that all employees understand their responsibilities with regard to health and safety, and that they are adequately trained and competent to carry out their functions;

  • Monitor and act on health and safety performance through proactive and reactive measures;

  • Prevent health and safety incidents through risk management and controls and maintain effective emergency arrangements;

  • Ensure plant, tools and equipment are maintained and regularly inspected;

  • Learn lessons from events, implement corrective actions and identify and use good practices wherever they may be found;

  • Monitor changes in legislation and ensure compliance;

  • Be familiar with client requirements and methods of work, and ensure they are implemented.  Where there is a difference between client and Alpheus requirements, the higher standard will be used;

  • Evaluate our contractors for health and safety credentials and monitor subsequent performance;

  • Adhere to the requirements of the Morrison Utility Health and Safety document.
