Alpheus are recruiting a Mechanical Fitter/Plant Operator, based on GSK’s site in Irvine, Scotland.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Alpheus’s Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) operational team as a Mechanical Fitter/Plant Operator, based on GSK’s site in Irvine, Scotland.

Alpheus (part of the Anglian Water Group) are a successful water and waste water asset management and maintenance company, delivering O&M services across a portfolio of nationwide contracts. The company also delivers design and build infrastructure schemes as well as waste water recycling services.

As a Mechanical Fitter/Plant Operator, you will form an integral part of the WWTP operational team. This will involve carrying out proactive maintenance and operation of assets and infrastructure on the WWTP.

You'll be a strong advocate of Alpheus’ and the site’s health & safety (H&S) policy and procedures, ensuring a focussed and positive attitude at all times. You will lead by example and live by the company commitment to the principle that all accidents and harm are preventable.

Working as part of a shift team, including weekend and on call cover, you'll carry out routine and non-routine mechanical inspections, repairs, fault finding and maintenance. You will also carry out routine plant operation duties including set-point review and adjustment, sampling, laboratory testing and other general duties. You will be a key contributor to the goals of excellence in site maintenance, cleanliness and operational efficiency.

A key aspect of this role will be to improve existing plans and contribute to designing new full life asset maintenance plans. You'll pay particular attention to environmental permit requirements and revenue generating streams, ensuring that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and targets are achieved and that your attention is on improving performance and efficiency. In particular, focusing on the compliance of the treated effluent discharge to the environment and the optimal performance of the Anaerobic Digester (AD) plant.

To be successful in your application you'll be educated to Standard 3 or GCSE C grade Level in English, Science and Maths or equivalent. You'll have previous experience in a similar role and have gained relevant mechanical/fitters qualifications. Experience of laboratory testing will be an advantage, but is not essential.

With experience of working to asset management plans, you will be used to following set procedures in a controlled H&S environment. Experience in a waste water operations and/or industrial processing plant would be advantageous.

You'll have excellent communication and organisational skills and have a flexible attitude towards your work. You'll be a team player who is able to adapt to change and challenge where required. With a pro-active and positive attitude, you will be forward thinking with good analytical, IT and customer service skills.
