Makro is the leading cash and carry wholesaler in the UK, with stores at 30 locations nationwide. With thousands of lines covering food and non-food products, Makro offers their professional customers the very best service, choice of quality products and value for money, everything under one roof.
Makro required planned preventative maintenance of their wastewater assets including a treatment plant, which had previously been supplied and installed by Alpheus to replace a plant at the end of its economic life. Following a tender process Makro awarded the contract to Alpheus in 2006.
Since 2006 Alpheus has been providing planned preventative maintenance of wastewater assets at 30 Makro sites nationally. The assets comprise of pumping stations, which pump wastewater to the public sewer and one treatment plant which discharges to the environment under an Environment Agency discharge consent. The contract also covers surface water car park drainage and incorporates regular cleaning of the car park aco drains.
The planned preventative maintenance programme implemented by Alpheus ensures minimal downtime and consequent impact on Makro’s stores. As some of the assets are within the stores themselves, it is crucial that on-site activities are planned and timed carefully to minimise disruption.
The drainage on some of the sites has proved challenging and in response Alpheus has undertaken a number of minor works to bring the drainage up to current standards.
Alpheus also submitted proposals to eliminate flooding in delivery area at the Queensferry store and successfully implemented a project to install a SuDS-based attenuation system, preventing further flooding.
Alpheus has delivered a tailor-made planned preventative maintenance programme for Makro, which minimises downtime and significantly reduces the risk of disruption to their premises. This enables Makro to focus on their core business whilst meeting Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
