Alpheus partners with leading food manufacturer Hain Daniels

Leading water and wastewater company, Alpheus Environmental, has secured yet another large Design & Build (D&B) contract, to upgrade the AD (Anaerobic Digestion) system for leading food manufacturer Hain Daniels.

The 12-month D&B programme will upgrade the existing AD system at Hain Daniel’s wastewater treatment plant in Histon, Cambridge, replacing it with a new, state-of-the-art Paques ICX AD reactor. The new system will be able to deal with the full flow of the site, plus 20% head room for future expansion. Other benefits include reducing trade effluent discharge costs, improving effluent quality and generating more biogas. The gas will be used in existing CHP (Combined Heat & Power) units to create even more power for the site, which will deliver cost efficiencies and increase its’ sustainability.

The old, existing AD system had reached the end of its’ life. Work has already begun on site.

Declan Maguire, Managing Director of Alpheus Environmental, said: “We are delighted to be working with such a respected UK Food and Beverage (F&B) brand, who is committed to maximising environmental efficiencies throughout their plant design and operations. This is another great example of the F&B sector showing commitment to meeting their carbon reduction targets through investment in AD technology and upgrading their wastewater treatment works.

At Alpheus we pride ourselves on being an ‘environmental partner’ to our clients, helping them to innovate and to achieve operational and environmental efficiencies, as well as their corporate sustainability goals. I believe that this is the start of a great partnership for both businesses, which we hope will continue for many years to come”.

Gavin Kilbourn, Head of Engineering for Hain Daniels, said: “We were pleased to award this and the new balance tank projects to Alpheus on our Histon site. These projects are always complicated when integrating new technology onto an existing plant, whilst keeping the factory running at full capacity. These projects are part of our site energy reduction program, which is delivering large savings today and in the future”.

Alpheus works in partnership with its’ clients to help them achieve their sustainability, environmental, and commercial goals, including carbon reduction targets. The Team uses its’ specialist knowledge and experience gathered over the past 30 years of operation to help clients’ access and install the best available technologies and equipment from across all markets.
